Who: Quiet Game Starting Now, Hot Challenge, Dance My Heart, Foolish Ways.
Where: Vets. Hall in Downtown Martinez (Ward Street)
Lets start with a venue review shall we? Interesting idea but lacking in acoustic quality.
And next time you plan a show make sure to have a reasonable age limit. If I wanted to party
with elementary school kids I'd wait for the Jonas Brothers next world tour. Anyway OK location and like I said...interesting idea.
Quiet Game Starting Now: Previously known as The Purple Bow Ties, a well known local band from Martinez. Now I am pretty good friends with a few of the guys in the band and these are nice guys, but if I'm going to give a fair and honest review I'd say it was a less than...
memorable performance. Not saying it wasn't good because they have a good sound, sometimes fell off tempo, but who doesn't? And (this is a venue thing) being front...row I couldn't hear a damn word Blake (lead singer) was saying the whole time. Like I was saying it wasn't a bad performance, but not good enough to make me remember it.
Hot Challenge: Right up my ally, good vocals, good music, awesome beats, unique and after about 3 songs- absolutely boring. I can appreciate a good indie sounding band, thats my favorite kind of music but I still need just a bit of variety to keep me interested. Hot Challenge was almost there. Oh and I have no idea if this was on purpose but one of the songs the singer made an interesting key change or something, it sounded a bit dissonant- I liked it a lot. Over all a fair performance.
Dance My Heart: Oh the weeks of anticipation to see this band live, and they didn't let me down. Maybe I'm just an overly shallow person but I didn't go for the music for this band it was more about the gang of really gorgeous men I was looking forward to photographing, but can you blame me? Their less than quality recordings (live I think) didn't give me much to look forward to (FYI Bands, don't use live recordings as your fans only outlet of at home listening for too long, they aren't very good and tend to make everything sound off beat ;D) but when they finally got on stage and started playing I was, to my relief, pleasantly surprised. The lead singer could actually sing unlike a good handful of local SF Metro local bands (you'd be surprised...) everyone could play their instruments the drummer was by far my favorite- I was really admiring his talent- haha. They brought a good crowd (referring to that one blond guy my friend and I talked with but I cant remember his name, sorrz D:) and they had good pronounced interesting breakdowns. I would defiantly pay to see them again.
Foolish Ways: Fucking QUALITY. My only complaint is that Kell's microphone was far louder than Dillion's. They impressed me so much its not even funny. I'd keep a look out for them because they're 10x better than 30H!3 is and their not even signed yet. If you haven't seen them live your missing out on a really fun and entertaining show. You're also missing out on Kell's dancing, in which case you are again missing out.
So just remember guys this is one persons opinion, please don't hate me I'm just writing an honest review. In any case if I had the option to see any of these bands again I would. The night all together was fun and I hope to go to another event like this again in the near future.
A few words about “Dance Party” in general: Fun, Entertaining, and Worth the $5.
